Port of Anacortes profile

The Port of Anacortes was established in 1926, and the Port District was expanded to its current boundaries in 1962. The district includes approximately 100 square miles in Skagit County, including Fidalgo Island and various agricultural and heavy industrial lands in west Skagit County. 

The Port of Anacortes, located primarily in the historic city of Anacortes, is a dynamic maritime hub dedicated to fostering economic vitality and preserving the environmental health and natural beauty of its surroundings. Governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners and supported by a dedicated team of 75 full- and part-time employees, the Port team works every day to deliver on its mission of supporting commerce and job creation while protecting the quality of life for area residents.

The Port of Anacortes has prioritized the electrification and decarbonization of port facilities and activities and is a certified member of Green Marine, a voluntary initiative to improve environmental performance beyond regulatory standards. The Port is also a charter member of WA Maritime Blue.

The Port of Anacortes owns and operates several properties:

•  The Cap Sante Marina supports commercial fishing and commercial and recreational boaters. The marina is also home to the Port of Anacortes T-Dock, which is slated to be improved to accommodate more vessel traffic within the next few years.  
• The Port of Anacortes Marine Terminal is a deep-water seaport located between Seattle, Washington, and Vancouver, British Columbia, that services break bulk cargo, high and heavy projects, and moorage services. The Marine Terminal consists of three centrally located piers; Pier 2, Pier 1 (home of Dakota Creek Industries), and Curtis Wharf, which provide direct access to Guemes Channel and an established heavy haul route to the state highway system. 
• The Anacortes Airport serves local aviators and businesses and plays a vital role in resiliency planning for the community.  

EDASC partners closely with the Port of Anacortes and has worked to enhance business retention, expansion and recruitment efforts with their tenants and properties. Recently, EDASC finished a light industrial market demand study that directly informs the Port of opportunities for their Rockwell property, which is located adjacent the Anacortes Airport and has the potential to accommodate a 50,000 square foot light industrial facility. 

The Port of Anacortes’ Interim Executive Director John Dumas will be among the presenters at the Skagit County Maritime Symposium on June 26, along with Port of Skagit Executive Director Sara Young and Swinomish Port Authority Director JJ Wilbur.
